Our History
Westminster House Society is a charitable non-profit in British Columbia, founded in 1981 as Julien House Society.
Named after Dr. Walter Julien, a respected dentist and AA member, the organization was created by compassionate AA community members and local business people to provide a safe house for women recovering from alcoholism.

In 1985, Westminster House opened in New Westminster as a sober house for women. It eventually grew into a permanent facility, funded by a Human Resources Development Canada grant, offering a formalized, holistic recovery approach.

In 2015, it became Westminster House Society, now providing comprehensive care for women and their families. Services include Primary, Second Stage, and longer term Recovery Housing, which now provides comprehensive care for women and their families. Services include daily group therapy, educational sessions, life skills, wellness programs, individual counselling, and ongoing recovery support.

Our Philosophy
Westminster House provides addiction recovery services for youth and adult women that include medically supervised detox, stabilization, primary care treatment, transition, long term recovery housing, and family programs. Westminster House is a 90 day bed-based program and to experience the full continuum of care, the stay could be as short as 90 days and as long as 6 months. Many residents also access Westminster House's substance-free recovery housing which can last up to one year.

Prospective clients may struggle with the idea of taking 90 days out of their life to participate in addiction treatment. Those experiencing ambivalence toward seeking help can call us any time to start the conversation.
