Westminster House is hosting a substance-free night of live Blues music with award-winning artists performing in support of Women in Recovery.  It all started with a couple of alumni talking about how to fundraise for post-treatment programs including attending camp Rainbow Lodge this summer.  “Attending the Recovery Camp last summer was an amazing experience,” says alumni Lori McCarnan “It changed how I felt about taking positive risks in my life clean and sober.  It also reinforced that my life in recovery is my best life.”

The event morphed from the love of Blues music.  It’s soulful and honest.   Very recovery based.  The date came about March 8th because it is International Women’s Day.  That day is significant in it’s a day of empowerment for women.  It seemed perfect for women in recovery.  Taking back their lives and living a clean life.

To make this so special 2 award-winning women Blues artists have agreed to come and perform to help raise funds for Women in Recovery.

Sue Foley has recently won Blues Guitarist of the Year and her new Album Ice Queen was also nominated for Blues Album of the Year.  A Canadian herself, she currently resides in Austin Texas, and performs regularly at the famous Antone’s, (Stevie Ray Vaughn’s Club) She is flying up from Austin, and it’s a real treat to have her perform for the event and support women in recovery.

Rita Chiarelli is the Canada Goddess of the Blues.  Over the past decade Rita has won every major Canadian blues award.  Most recently Rita was awarded the prestigious Maple Blues ‘Blues With A Feeling Award’ for Lifetime Achievement, for her album and DVD “Music from the Big House”.  This musical journey is a glance into what used to be the bloodiest prison in America, but now gives lifers something to live for through the power of music. She is a true supporter of recovery and forgiveness.  It is so amazing to have her fly in and perform for us.

This will be an amazing night of live music here in New Westminster.  Tickets are available on EventBrite.
