Interventions

It’s challenging to help a loved one struggling with any addiction. Sometimes a direct conversation can start the road to recovery. People who struggle with addiction are often in denial about their situation and unwilling to seek treatment. They may not recognize the negative effects their behaviour has on themselves and others and a more focused approach is needed. You may need to join forces with others and take action through a formal intervention.

An intervention presents your loved one with a structured opportunity to make changes before things get even worse and can motivate someone to seek or accept help. Consulting an addiction professional, such as an interventionist, can help you organize an effective intervention. Substance use or addiction professionals will consider your loved one’s particular circumstances, suggest the best approach, and help guide you in what type of treatment and follow-up plan is likely to work best.

Westminster House, addiction treatment

Westminster House Society (WHS) works closely with certified interventionists to ensure clients have a smooth transition from intervention to residential treatment.  Our intake specialist can connect you to an interventionist specific to the needs of your loved one, 604-524-5633.

What you should know about an intervention:

The role of an interventionist is to help families understand how to best how to end the pain and trauma of addiction. In addition, they guide the intervention process and help the families to communicate with their loved ones. An interventionist offers three choices of treatment and offers only licensed or registered programs such as WHS.

 An interventionist is not:

  1. A motivational speaker
  2. The family’s primary therapist
  3. A treatment center employee

After the intervention, it is recommended for the family to engage in its own recovery.  Again, our family group program can help 604-524-5633.  Please call Westminster House directly for a confidential consultation and referral to one of our affiliated interventionists based on the needs and location of your loved one:
