PROGRAMS

Westminster House offers a licensed Women’s Residential Recovery Centre, providing 20 beds with 24 hour supervision. The program consists of a suggested stay based upon the required amount of time to complete a set of steps which are drug or alcohol related. Upon admission, each client undergoes an individualized treatment program assessment based on their specific issue and area of concern.

Clients are expected to participate in recovery-based social activities each week. These activities may include 12-step meetings, one-to-one consultations and assignments, Alumni Day events, and other formal structured groups and recovery program components. Westminster House programs include: Primary Care refers to the initial stage of services offered before an individual either graduates to Transitional Care or moves to a home-based transitional service provided by Westminster House. During this time, counselors help clients to understand their disease, its symptoms, progression, and treatment options available in continuing care. Clients participate in group counselling, 12-step meetings and life skill development. A Primary Care stay varies based upon the time it takes for the individual to successfully complete a full set of 12 steps related to drugs or alcohol.

Second Stage/Transitional Care is the secondary stage of recovery services offered by Westminster House. It provides the option to access a transition bed in a separate living unit across from the main house. Clients access the same service offerings received in Primary Care but receive increased personal responsibility and freedom.

Transitional Care is the secondary stage of recovery services offered by Westminster House. It provides the option to access a transition bed in a separate living unit across from the main house. Clients access the same service offerings received in Primary Care but receive increased personal responsibility and freedom.

Outpatient services are also offered to those individuals who may not require residential admission, but who would like the extra support of the programs offered during the daytime hours at Westminster House. Clients who would qualify for this service must be stable in their abstinence and would be assessed on a case by case basis by the Senior Counsellor and Director of the program.

Group Counselling is a significant component of the recovery process. Group sessions allow for the free flowing exchange of information and ideas in a safe and supportive environment. Group sessions influence, motivate and inspire change. Clients are required to attend daily group counselling sessions to learn life skills, leisure skills, alcohol and drug education and personal development strategies.

Recreation is provided to clients at Westminster House to reintroduce drug free social activities within the community. Clients are provided with passes for access to the local community recreation centre (up to three times per week). Swim passes, gym passes, Boot Camp instructors, and Acupuncture treatments are all part of the program, and serve to sustain the clients’ health and overall wellbeing. Clients are also encouraged to participate in local, recovery-based social activities such as cultural events, sports events, and outings with other members of the 12-step community.
