About our Event
Just as we get clean n New Westminster, Westminster House will turn our attention to the environment we live in and adopt a public space to clean up once a year. We want the community we live in to know about us and to feel proud that hundreds of women have been given a chance to become active and responsible members of the community.

On Saturday September 10, 2011 Westminster House will host our third annual Clean Up in New West event.  Westminster House current residents, staff, board members and alumni, together with their families, friends and the community will be turning up to show their gratitude. Their sleeves will be rolled-up and ready for clean up action!

Our event will feature a clean up march, pie eating contest, charity raffle, family games and more! Participation includes a complimentry lunch!

About Westminster House
Westminster House is a residential recovery centre located in the heart of New Westminser. Founded in 1981, Westminster House is a non-profit organization that offers access to women from across British Columbia and beyond.

It is a testament to the program that many of our graduates stay connected to Westminster House as alumni and volunteers. This long term connection both aids stability and encourages women entering the program.

The team at Westminster House chose the acorn as our symbol because of its similarity to the recovery process; it has to hit the ground hard in order to open, grow, and reveal the strong oak tree within.

We are Grateful

Testiment
I arrived at Westminster House paralyzed by fear. Everything of which I valued- self-respect, hope, pride, and honor- were stripped of me. Unable to go on living the way I was living, but terrified of change- of which I thought was so unimaginable.

I went through the days just stringing one day with the next. The women of Westminster House carried me. Myself, being too defeated and exhausted to make any sort of decisions on my own.

As days turned into months, I gained a sense of self back. I learned to trust, to love, and to laugh again. I developed unbridled relationships with women. I found my “place” within myself, my home (Westminster House), and my community.

All of which I believe in, I have gained by the unconditional love and support from the women of Westminster House. I have purpose. I have value. I live with honor and integrity.

I see my fallibility as a human. And I can now recognize trust and reliance on women that want to hold me up. Hold me up high, to my greatest potential. “Life on life’s terms” is something I trust I can cope with now, because I now put value to life- to my life.

Westminster House has given me spiritual contentment, love in my heart, and personal freedom. Westminster House has allowed me the ability to live with dignity, to love myself and others, to laugh, and to find great joy and beauty in my surroundings. Westminster House is my home and my family to which I am forever grateful.
