AFTERCARE

Aftercare services at Westminster House are offered to clients who have completed the Primary Care portion of their treatment. Transitional Care is designed to continue the therapeutic process after the initial intensive treatment stay. The objective is to help each client maintain their recovery as they move back to their homes or home communities, while slowly adding additional life skills and activities acquired during treatment to their daily lives. The goal of this second stage of recovery services offered is to make transitioning back into mainstream society a safe and supportive process.

Prior to discharge from Westminster House, a continuing care plan is tailored to address the personal needs of the client identified during the treatment process. The transition process is individualized and planned with the active participation and engagement of the client.

Transitional Care also offers the option for clients to access a transitional stage bed, located in a secondary home located directly across the street from the main house. Clients are provided additional care and security during the transition phase and are provided with a room and ongoing group support. All meals are taken at Westminster House, however clients residing in a Transitional Care bed are responsible for the up keep and overall cleanliness of the residence. Additional privileges and responsibilities are assigned on an individual basis and closely monitored to help with the remediation of various parts of a client’s life.

Structured Aftercare programs such as the Transitional Care program offered by Westminster House have shown higher rates of recovery in clients than treatment alone. The Westminster House Aftercare program was designed to significantly increase rates of recovery for those struggling with addiction. The recovery process does not end when an individual completes a recovery program. Continuing support upon completion of treatment is the key to a healthy and sustainable recovery.

Graduates of Westminster House programs are strongly encouraged to attend Alumni meetings and events. Please see our Alumni pages to learn more about weekly group sessions, volunteer opportunities and upcoming fundraising events.
